PESCANDO A LA ESPERA 3 by Pablo Sanchez e Juan Jose Coronil
It has been just released the third episode of "Pescando a la espera", a spearfishing DVD series filmed in the beautiful waters of the Gibraltar Strait. In the last few years I have been collecting with passion the films made by Pablo Sanchez and Juan Jose Coronil, two young Spanish athletes who have created amazing documentaries with the help of common and very simple video cameras. A few years ago they started mounting cameras with waterproof cases on their spearguns and now they use Midland XTC and GoPro Hero mounted on the mask.
Despite the fact they do not use sophisticated equipment the outcome does not appear like an homemade movie and is characterized by a professional quality. Compared to other documentaries by the most famous champions, Pescando a la Espera has the advantage of being designed and built with the aim of sharing the emotions that spear fishing gives us, without the will of teaching techniques or other. I have seen many documentaries in which most of the time was devoted to the explanation of techniques and theories, and very less to spearfishing actions. In other words, a lot of bla bla bla that often the audience could do without because, let's face it, spearfishing is an instinctive activity that can be "guided" but that must find free expression in those who practice it. Well in this film there is plenty of amazing catches which surprise not only for the quantity but also for the size of the preys.
Generally speaking, every spearo can be satisfied if he can spot (and consequently catch) a large fish such as an amberjack or a leer. In this DVD Pablo Sanchez and Juan Jose Coronil besides showing catches like that, they do carry them out in schools of many large specimens. Some of the sequences are very spectacular since the catches are performed in dense schools of those little fishes the predators like the most. That is the case of a big meagre for example or a 5 kilos dentex approaching very close.
Exceptional amberjacks, leers, groupers, meagres and dentex will then end up on the shafts of these talented Spanish spearos for the entire duration of the film. You just need to consider that the first filmed prey is a 3kg gilthead bream and among the many other ones shown, there is also a 40kg meagre! Unfortunately this DVD is produced only in Spanish language however I loved it and if I have intrigued you, just take a look at the pictures and check the video below.
DEMO CAZANDO EN EL ABISMO THE LATEST PIPIN FERRERAS AND PERSISTENT TEAM'S DVDs
DEMO CAZANDO EN EL ABISMO
The great diver Pipin Ferreras presents his latest work, a DVD with no equals in which, thanks to his sublime talent, he shows catches performed at over 40 meters depth, in the clear waters of Miami-FL. This documentary also distinguish itself for the idea, unique in its kind, at the basis of its creation: taking a good looking model and teach her how to spearfish!
In fact, Pipin’s technical and professional dives are accompanied by sequences portraying Nina Melo during the catch of large amberjacks and barracudas. This DVD is not only about spearfishing actions but you can also enjoy demonstrations of pure apnea and relevant training in the pool. Thanks to the great visibility of U.S. waters, all catches, mainly groupers and snappers, are filmed by a second diver often positioned several meters behind the spearo and they are never filmed with the subjective technique.
The commentary is in Spanish or English, and by clicking on the link below you can enjoy a short sequence of fishing with the model NINA MELO!
In this DVD, also lasting about an hour and commented in English, Pipin chooses the successful formula of the previous documentary: introducing a good looking woman to the marvelous world of spearfishing. The great catches of this movie in fact will be also performed by world famous freediver EVA GOMEZ.
Another “guest star” will be JORGE MARIO that you already know as author of the article about Spearfishing in Florida. The sandy bottoms on which countless shipwrecks lye off the coast of Miami, are the background for the catches of large pelagics such as barracuda and amberjack.
Spearfishing on wrecks, an activity that has become famous thanks to the performances of Normandy divers, amplifies its charm in this documentary thanks to the incomparable clarity of the water, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of these boats sunk intentionally to create an artificial habitat. Here again, the spearos will engage in diving at mind-blowing depths and you can enjoy two bits by clicking on the videos below:
With this DVD you will see a 70 minutes summary of two Spearfishing days, with the Brazilian champion DIEGO SANTIAGO first and with Pipin right after. Once again off Miami coast, these great athletes will show you their own techniques on a mixed bottom of rocks and sand, catching large groupers and snappers.
The shooting and fishing techniques are those common to the other DVDs. The spearos are filmed by a second diver while fishing with the falling technique or the waiting one. Their spearguns are never equipped with a reel but they are tied up with a yellow floating line to a buoy on the surface.
For European spearos, really used to hide our presence in any way among the rocks, it might be weird considering to fish in our waters with their techniques, but as they say, every country chooses the way that best fits...
Here's a brief trailer:
CHASSEURS D'EMOTIONS SPEARFISHING ON D-DAY WRECKS
Although the latter is often associated with reflection and solitude, spearfishing is an inner journey full of inexplicable feelings that we share with close mates. It's right this spirit that characterizes the excellent DVD of Sébastien Le Corre, Philippe Vercruysse and Mathias Beaudouin, turned on the wrecks of the Normandy landings. Except for the images of sea bass and whole fauna (unusually clear for Normandy waters), this movie deserves a special mention for its editing that is truly original.
Usually spearfishing DVD have all the same structure; an athlete dives, shoot a fish, gets on the boat, moves and dives again, all that with the voice of a narrator who explains what happens. Chasseurs d’emotions is instead the "visual story" of different fishing trips that exudes the spirit of friendship between Sebastien and his spearo mates, by mixing sequences in which they choose the fishing spots comfortably sat in their kitchen, with sequences that portray big basses coming suddenly out of dark recesses of the wrecks. In addition, some editing "special effects" and the choice of relaxing music (often dark and tension-building rhythms are used) make the vision pleasant and smooth.
DVD Release Date: April 2010 Duration: 52 minutes
TRAINING THE EQUALIZATION DVD FRENZEL VALSAVA AND MOUTH FILL WITH ANDREA ZUCCARI
Many of today's spearfishers have known the sea world and the freediving techniques in a rough way relying on their empirical considerations and on rumors. Such a knowledge has often built the foundation of gross mistakes and bad habits. If the empiric way is the right one to understand the hunting habits of the fishes in order to choose the best technique to spear them, in regards to freediving and equalization certainly the right path to follow is the "awareness" one.
For a lot of spearos, equalization is a big problem, mainly represented by the difficulty of clearly understanding the techniques to use that are much less instinctive than blowing the nose with two fingers on it. A book even if provided with detailed illustrations cannot meet this need, that's why the DVD "Training the equalization" made by the Swiss record holder Andrea Zuccari is rather a good way to equalize with the awareness of what you are actually doing.
In 40 minutes are explained in great detail and in a very simple way all the exercises to perform in order to enhance the execution of the following types of equalization:
• Valsalva
• Frenzel
• Fill Mouth
Each exercise is accompanied by a demonstration video and a list of detailed operations to perform. During each video, the use of the glottis and the soft palate, which is well explained in the introductory phase, are constantly shown. Finally this DVD with very technical features but easily accessible to all is an essential tool to improve our technique and to get a solid basis.
